When is WASDE live vs placeholder?
WASDE tries FAS PSD first, then falls back to USDA's public ESMIS WASDE API (no key required) if PSD is unreachable — either path ships quality official without placeholder. Only if both fail does placeholder: true appear; agents must check the flag either way, and the source field ("USDA FAS PSD" vs "USDA WAOB / ESMIS WASDE") shows which pipeline produced the number.
What about crop progress?
GET /v1/fundamentals/crop-progress returns NASS GOOD+EXCELLENT style progress when NASS_API_KEY works.
Export sales path?
GET /v1/fundamentals/export-sales for FAS ESR when keyed. Pair with /v1/calendar for release timing.
